The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a nonprofit organization whose members are employed in the film industry. The organization presents annual awards, commonly known as Oscars, for excellence in motion picture production. It also documents film history by maintaining a reference library of films, as well as appropriate books and photographs. The academy publishes a directory of members and an annual index of motion picture credits.
